Can’t say no?

Are you “just a girl who can’t say no?”

Ok, so I’m probably giving away my age by admitting that I remember this song from the musical “Oklahoma!” But, I’m at that age where I don’t really care anymore if you know my age!

That being said, I am still a woman – and like every other woman on the planet(I might be exaggerating here, but probably not) – I have a problem saying “no!”

And like the song says, “I always say, come on, let’s go. Just when I ought to say NIX!

How about you? Do you have trouble saying no?

And I’m not just talking about to your boss
(I acknowledge that can be difficult) but to anyone!

Especially to your loved ones. You want them to be happy. You want them to get what they want. Besides, you’re supposed to sacrifice your needs and wants for your family, right?

But what about you? How do you feel when all you do is give them what they want? Maybe just a little bit resentful?

My guess is, yes, you do feel a little bit resentful…
I know I do! And may I ask you another question?

How much fun are you to be around, when you’re feeling resentful? Probably not much fun…am I right?

On the flip side of the coin, I’ll bet you are a blast to be around when you are taking care of yourself and doing things you love to do…right again?

So I have a little challenge for you. This week, I want you to simply pay attention and note how many times you say “yes” when you really want to say “no.”

No judgement, just notice how many times that happens and how you feel when you say “yes” instead of “no.”

Now I have another question for you. Do you like games? Great! So, the following week, I have a game for you to play!

During the next week, every time you are about to say “yes” to something, I want you to stop for a minute and ask yourself, Do I really want to do this?” …and if the answer is “no”, then I want you to silently break out into a chorus of, “I’m just a girl who can’t say no. I’m in a terrible fix!”

By the time you finish this silly song mentally, you’ll most likely be smiling…

Then I want you to continue smiling and  say (nicely!) “No, I’m sorry, I can’t do that.”

Please let me know how that goes in the comments!
