EMERGENCY LANDING

As an ex-flight attendant, I ask you…what are you supposed to do when those little oxygen masks fall out of the panel above your head? Come on, you remember! You’ve heard it a thousand times –

“Secure your own mask before helping your children or others.”

And why is that? Because if we are incapacitated, we can’t help others!

If we don’t take care of ourselves, we can not help others.

What does that have to do with today?

During the Holiday Season, we all have our minds on giving – gifts, thanks, prayers – but especially gifts.

We, especially we women, have always been taught that it’s better to give than to receive. It was even suggested (not verbally, mind you…I’m talking about insinuation) that it is selfish to take care of yourself! Your children come first, your husband comes first, your partner comes first – and when you’re older, your parents come first.

Now, I’ve never had children and I so admire those of you who have! The sacrifices you’ve made are admirable! And it is all for love. I get that!

Not having children, my partner and I have always had the freedom to do pretty much whatever we wanted in life. And we have both made adjustments to help the other pursue her dreams.

But first, we had to ask for what we wanted!

Each of us had to take care of herself and her dreams first.

Then we had the energy and desire to help each other.

So, at this time of giving, let me leave you with this thought:

There is a time to give and a time to receive – and perhaps – there is a time to do both!

It’s your turn! Put that mask on, and DREAM! What do you want this Holiday Season?
