Hello Wild Thing!
It’s been a good while since I’ve written a post. But I had a couple of people poke me recently and ask me when I was going to share another posts…so here I am!
This last Wednesday, I posted my “Wild Wednesday” video on Facebook, sharing what makes my heart sing. You can watch it here, if you like.
And I am inviting you to do the same today.
Really, think about it…what does make your heart sing? What puts a silly grin on your face? What makes you feel good? What makes you relax completely and just enjoy the moment? What makes your heart race (in a good way?)What thrills your taste buds? What makes you want to dance?
I think you get the picture. Now I want you to get yourself a journal – one you really like. It can be a little leather-bound book, or one with a lovely print or a silly picture on it that makes you smile when you see it. Whatever floats your boat! But I want you to get a good feeling when you look at it.
And I want you to make a promise to yourself. Repeat after me:
“I promise to take 5 minutes every day, just before I go to bed, to write down three things that happened today, that made my heart sing.”
Like what, you ask? Well, here’s my favorite heart song:
I remember when I lived in Hawaii, there was a local tradition. If you were on the leeward (western) side of the island at sunset, no matter what you were doing, you stopped…and watched the sun disappear into the ocean. If you were really lucky, you saw the “green flash” as the sun went under the water-line. You felt really special if you caught that magic moment. There was even a special radio show, called “Hawaiian Sunset” with great music. If you were driving, you stopped the car at the side of the road to watch the sunset. You “talked story” (chatted) with whomever else had stopped on the side of the road. It was a moment of real “communion” between complete strangers – a common appreciation of a simple moment in life.
It doesn’t matter if I’m not in Hawaii anymore…sunsets are amazing anywhere! And it is a moment of pure peace and joy for me, every day. It makes my heart sing!
So, what makes your heart sing?
- Your dog so excited to see you, he’s being wagged by his tail?
- The enticing aroma of coffee first thing in the morning?
- A stroll in the woods?
Your turn! That’s all there is to it! Probably takes way less than 5 minutes/day, so no excuses allowed!
And I can guarantee you that once you get into it, you are going to look forward to doing it!
Once you’ve done it for a week, re-read all your heart-songs. Do they make you smile? How do they make you feel?
Do you notice anything in common about them? (I’ll give you a hint…how much do they cost? How “easy” are they to do?)
So, if they’re so easy, and mostly free, why don’t we do more of them?
Because we are out of practice. We are so busy, we forget the simple things in life.
All it takes is awareness – and gratitude.
So, from now on, I am inviting you to make it a habit to notice – and be grateful for – the simple things in life that make your heart sing!
